You and I can work together to create your unique Humanist wedding/partnership ceremony. Humanist ceremonies are very flexible and can be as elaborate or as simple as you wish. Antiquated law in England means that the ceremony cannot yet confer the legal status of marriage – that still has to be completed at a Register Office – but most couples view the Humanist ceremony as the time when they truly commit themselves to each other in front of family and friends. This does mean that Humanist wedding/partnership ceremonies are free of any constraint to take place in specifically licensed premises. I am happy to conduct your ceremony indoors or outdoors, on a hilltop, in a garden, on the beach, in a castle or hotel, on a boat … in England or abroad.
The fundamental point about a Humanist ceremony is that it has no religious content. The focus is on you, the couple, and your commitment to each other (and children if you have any), and on our responsibilities to each other as human beings. That said, it is quite acceptable to have a moment or two of reflection during the ceremony – perhaps accompanied by music - where guests with a religious belief may have a private prayer.
The ceremonies usually include music and readings. Each ceremony is scripted individually and will reflect your personalities and aspirations. We will work together towards creating your own vows, commitments or affirmations. Family and friends may also wish to contribute during the occasion. Your ceremony will be inclusive and joyful and will be appropriate for everyone – whatever their beliefs.
I will be able to advise you on what works and what may pose something of a problem. As a member of the British Humanist Association, I have a national network of colleagues with extensive experience to draw upon.
My basic fee will include my local travel within Leicestershire, a preliminary meeting, draft and final script and emails etc., rehearsal, performance of the ceremony, certificate, presentation copy of script. Half the fee is due seven days before our first meeting and the remainder is payable a month before the ceremony.
The British Humanist Association can send you a booklet entitled “Sharing The Future” that will answer some of your questions - call 0207 079 3580, email ceremonies@humanism.org.uk or click the Ceremonies link at www.humanism.org.uk.
I hope you decide to go ahead with a Humanist ceremony. If you wish to discuss ideas further, than please email me or give me a call.
I will do all I can to make your ceremony a joyous, truly personal and memorable occasion.
A baby-naming is a momentous occasion which marks a transition in the life of the parents and any older children. It welcomes a child into the world and celebrates his / her life. It puts people in touch with their aspirations and can appoint life-mentors (sometimes called supporting adults, guide parents or special friends) in an age when people move around. It makes the Humanist point that the child will grow up free to make his or her own decisions about what to believe. It helps grandparents and other relatives and friends recognise the new family formally.
This is a child-centred occasion usually including music, readings and activity suitable for the ages present — you and I can work together to create your unique Humanist Baby-Naming & Welcoming Ceremony. Humanist ceremonies are very flexible and can be as elaborate or as simple as you wish.
